After watching Qualifying on Saturday, I just knew that race day would be as unpredictable and controversial.
I was right. A Shanghai thriller they’re calling it.
I’d like to congratulate Nico Rosberg for his maiden Formula 1 Grand Prix victory! He makes history giving Mercedes its first win since 1955. Well deserved indeed! Germany produces phenomenal drivers! Congratulations to the Mercedes team as well for a job well done! The promise that the car has been showing before the start of the season and in previous Qs has finally reaped a win!

If you ask me, if the incident in the pits didn’t happen with Michael Schumacher, Mercedes would’ve gotten the 1-2. I’m so desperate for Schumi to head to the podium on his post-retirement career but, these things happen.
Mclaren is still definitely the team to beat with Button and Hamilton (despite a 5 position penalty) taking 2nd and 3rd - both having to battle with the Red Bulls in the final laps. Which leads me to, WHAT IS UP WITH RED BULL?! When Vettel failed to make Q3 on Saturday I was totally flabbergasted! Although, it was a decent result having started from P11 and Webber moving up a couple spots as well despite a car flop (literally), they have got to do something. I want Seb to get a 3peat!

As usual, here are my highlights:
3 Mercedes powered cars take the podium: Rosberg with his first F1 win followed by Jenson and Lewis.

It was nice seeing Nico extremely happy! He joins his father who holds 5 GP titles in the father-son F1 legacy. Mercedes had great strategy and guided Nico brilliantly throughout the race. I also found the conversation between Nico, Jenson and Lewis before heading onto the podium pretty funny, the whole Nico kept on asking who was behind him coz it kept on changing. :))
My worry for Red Bull has gotten worse. I’m starting to sweat a little but I still have faith that Sebastian will win soon. I BELIEVE.
Massa underperforming has become a recurring issue and I am nervous for him as well. The car has not helped him at all. Massa is such a fantastic driver, I hope Ferrari gets his car sorted out soon.
The next race takes place in Bahrain. If you’ve been reading up, the Bahrain GP was “this close” to not happening. But the FIA has assured teams that the route and area for the GP is safe and the race will still happen.
The Bahrain Grand Prix will be on April 22, 2012, Sunday at 8pm.
Side Notes:
Grosjean FINALLY finishes the a grand prix.
Oh, and if you’re a Red Bull fan and an iPhone user, download Red Bull Kart Fighter! It’s such a fun game! Numerous countries with different difficulty circuits to get your Formula 1 fix on the go! I’ll definitely be on it until next weekend! :))

I cannot believe I did not know about this! :(
Apparently, right after the Malaysian GP, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren headed straight to the Philippines as part of a charity event for UNICEF! He spent two days in Binondo to spend time with 85,000 street children as well as filmed some footage for Soccer Aid!

He may not be my #1 Formula 1 driver but reading this totally melted my heart. What he’s doing is truly great. Lewis has got a big heart! :) I just wish there was a huge announcement about this so Manila could’ve shown him tons of Formula 1 love! :)
The rain during the Malaysian GP proved that Formula 1 is definitely unpredictable. Which is probably why I’m doing so bad in the Castrol EDGE Grand Prix Predictor. :))
The 2nd race takes place in Asia and just like how the weather has been so bipolar here in the Philippines the past few days, it was pretty much the same in Malaysia.
First of, I wanna start by saying how much I love the Sepang circuit. Turn 1 is just made to push cars into the sand and the start-finish strip is a DRS zone that made overtaking such a delight!

In qualifying, McLaren dominated once again taking the front row of the grid with Hamilton and Button, and imagine the smile on my face when Schumacher took P3! I hoped that this race would be the race he’d finally make it back onto the podium (of course, I was mistaken)! The Red Bulls weren’t deep into the grid either with Webber at P4 and Vettel at P6. And former world champ Kimi Raikkonen was at P5 for Lotus.
The rain was already pouring before the race started so I was a bit scared that they’d start behind the safety car - didn’t take long for them to send it out though! As usual, here are my highlights of the race:
Race ends with ALONSO - PEREZ - HAMILTON at the podium.

I was a bit thrown off by Perez’s appearance on the podium but Sauber definitely had great strategy as well as pitted at the right time with consideration to the weather. The win boosted their spirits and there’s no way but up for Sauber! They’ve proven that they’ve got a car worthy of a podium finish and a hella smart team to back up Sergio.

Sad that Jenson finished 14th, from the top to the back of the grid. Hamilton was a bit happier this time at the press conference for finishing 3rd considering the race conditions. Great driving on his end for being careful out on the track.
I’m extremely happy for Fernando and Ferrari. While I was reading my copy of Formula 1 Racing, in the driver’s profiles, they were waiting on Ferrari to give Fernando the car that’ll reinforce his great driving skills - and it looks like they have.
Starting to get really concerned about Red Bull though. It’s only a matter of time before Sebastian gets frustrated that he’s not taking P1 at qualifying. I guess the RB8 isn’t all it’s cracked up to be?
Next race is the Chinese Grand Prix, April 15 at 3pm! :)
No F1 for two weeks! :((((

Well here’s something I have never done before - full on blog about a Formula 1 race. :)) It’s obvious that the favorite sport of Filipinos is basketball, and yes, I am one of them hoop junkies but I’m also a sucker for Formula 1 racing. It became a ritual for my Dad and I be parked in front of the TV on Sundays to catch the races ever since I was a little girl. It was the Michael Schumacher era and the sport just won me over.
This sport is so beautiful - the science that goes into the car, the little adjustments that make a car faster 1/10ths of the seconds faster than the other is crucial, the superb driving and strategy - it made Sundays a whole lot more awesome.
I almost peed my pants yesterday from all the excitement for the first race of the 2012 Formula 1 season and the race did not disappoint! If last season 5 world champions were in 1 grid, this year it’s 6 with the return of Kimi Raikkonen! I had caught the qualifying the day before and I did not expect the turn out at all.

I knew Red Bull was having trouble with the car - its a great car but it hasnt been tweaked to give it its edge over the McClaren and Mercedes. What surprised me the most was Michael Schumacher’s rise to P4 (which I was ecstatic about because Vettel and him are my favorite drivers! GO GERMANS!) and the dude that came out of nowhere, Romain Grosjean, securing P3 on the Lotus-Renault. It became obvious what cars were close to their best. Jenson and Lewis expressed that they had a good winter having great tests on the cars and it proved its potential in qualifying giving McClaren the front row on the grid. Red Bull disappointed me a bit with Vettel and Webber settling for P5 and 6, as well as Ferari - Alonso failed to make it into Q3, leaving him at P12.
I won’t give a lap-by-lap analysis or anything, but here’s my list of highlights of the race:
Race ends with BUTTON - VETTEL - HAMILTON at the podium.

In the press conference, you could see that Lewis was incredibly upset on the turnout of events. But nevertheless, it was excellent driving by Jenson and great strategy by Sebastian.
Looks like McClaren has great cars on their hands! I hope Red Bull makes a couple adjustments to make Abbey (Sebastian’s car) better for Malaysia.
The next race is the Malaysian Grand Prix, March 25, Sunday at 4pm. :)
Side notes:
I loved the mini feature on Daniel Ricciardo before the race. He is such a cutie pie! :)) New happy crush!
It was hilarious when Raikkonen thought the blue flags were for him. He’s been away from Formula 1 for quite some time alright. :))

Johnnie Walker’s Step Inside the Circuit with Mika Hakkinen!
Last week found out I was one of the winners of the the Ask Mika Hakkinen contest by Autoindustriya.com that entitled me to a Gold Pass to Prive last Saturday (November 5) for the Johnnie Walker Step Inside the Circuit with Mika Hakkinen Party!
Before anything else, here are 3 things you should know:
1.) I love Formula 1. I’ve been watching it since I was 8-9 yrs old.
2.) Johnnie Walker is my favorite alcoholic drink.
3.) HAKKINEN 101: Mika Hakkinen is a 2-time Formula 1 World Champion (1998, 1999). Formula 1 was crazy exciting then - it was always a match up between Michael Schumacher (who was with Ferrari then) and David Coulthard! In 1995 during a practice session for the Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide, Hakkinen got into an accident that got him critically injured. Despite that, he was able to fully recover and make it back onto the podium for the 1996 season - AMAZING.
The event being a Johnnie Walker + Mika Hakkinen thing, I was one very happy girl! I brought my cousin Mariz along - despite her lack of Formula 1 knowledge :)) - because I wanted to catch up with her since we haven’t seen each other in so long. My awesome friends Vern, Tommy and Marco tagged along too and we met up with Karla who also won the contest. The place was packed with people older than us. I expected that because the Hakkinen/Schumacher era was over a decade ago. I was probably the youngest F1 fan there!
I’m truly impressed with Johnnie Walker’s, “Winners Never Drink and Drive” campaign. Step inside the Circuit is truly an effective way to up awareness and get people to join in on the pact, not to mention that tying up with Formula 1 drivers Hakkinen and Button is genius! The program was short and sweet. After a quick interview, a couple videos were played featuring Mika himself along with Jenson Button - both ambassadors for the campaign. After that, everyone was invited to sign the pact to “Never Drink and Drive” then the Gold Pass holders got to meet and greet Hakkinen! I was incredibly kilig when I introduced myself and shook his hand. Couldn’t believe that it was all happening!
This blog post cannot contain the awesomeness of that night. The Formula 1 fan girl in me is over the moon with happiness! Thanks to Johnnie Walker and Autoindustriya for making one of my Formula 1 dreams come true! :) Now I gotta work on finding a way to meet Schumacher and Vettel. :))
On a side note:
The Formula 1 season for this year is heading to a close with 2 races left - Abu Dhabi and Brazil. Vettel is already the world champ for 2011 but there are still records to be broken! If Vettel wins the last 2 races, he’ll share the record with M. Schumacher of most wins in a season (13 wins)! GO VETTEL!
DREAM. COME. TRUE. I was around 9 years old when I watched Mika Hakkinen race Formula 1. Never would’ve thought that over a decade later I’d get the chance to meet him! ♥ Schumacher and Vettel next please? :)
Will blog more about this awesome night in a bit! :)
Guess who’s gon be chillin’ with 2 time Formula 1 champion Mika Hakkinen this weekend?
So there was a contest to meet, greet and party with Mika Hakkinen when he visits Manila this weekend (part of the Johnnie Walker Step Inside the Circuit Series). All you had to do was come up with a question that’ll be asked during the interview and the top 10 questions/finalists would get to meet, greet and party with him as well as get the chance to be driven by Hakkinen himself! I entered the contest and WON!! My friend Karla (who’s real tight with my cousins) also won so I know this weekend is going to awesome! The picture above are the questions we submitted! My question wasn’t as long or as WHOA as the other winners, but hey, short and sweet and I still won! :)) Thank you autoinudustriya.com and Johnnie Walker!
I was around 9-10 years old when I watched Hakkinen race Formula 1! I am too excited to see him this weekend! My Formula 1 dreams are coming true! Sebastian Vettel next please? :)
Check out the full list of 10 winners and their questions here.
TOO FUNNY FOR MY LIFE!! :)) This has got to be one of the best Formula 1 commercials ever!
